Handpoked doodles for EVERY body ✍🏼ASL interpreter available upon request 🤟🏼Residing on Cowlitz territory (Portland, OR)
Hand-poke, or stick and poke, is a manual method of tattooing and is the original method introduced by Indigenous Cultures around the world, dating back as far as ancient Egypt. The method involves no machine and instead the tattooer holds a needle dipped in ink to push the design into the skin one dot at a time.In North America specifically, Indigenous Culture holds that tattoos connect us on a spiritual and physical plane. Hand-poked designs were and are done to honor and connect with ancestors, earth, animals, or your journey. Many sacred Indigenous practices were banned during colonization, including hand-poking. These cultures were directly impacted as a traditional form of communication and preserving stories was taken away.I whole-heartedly thank and acknowledge the traditional Indigenous territories that make up the greater “Portland, Oregon” area: Multnomah, Clackamas, Cowlitz, Cascades, and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Most Information derived from @Kunaq and @StephBigEagle on IG
